We were delighted to support the NishkamSWAT charity earlier this week, providing them with funding to offer free meals to homeless and vulnerable people in Trafalgar Square.
The charity, based in West London, work to unite and transform financially disadvantaged communities by focusing on projects that make a difference to people’s lives in the short term and improve their prospects in the long term. Their Homeless Project, which has been particularly active during the Covid-19 pandemic, offers support and food to less fortunate people across different areas of the UK based on the Sikh concept of Langar, which translates as ‘ Free Community Kitchen ‘.
Kulbir Rahi, Partner at our Ascot office, organised our donation. Kulbir commented "having watched the BBC documentary Street Food Servants I became aware of the valuable work undertaken by NishkamSWAT. Nishkam is the first UK Sikh charity to take Langar – Free Community Kitchen - to the streets. Covid-19 has resulted in an even greater need for such services and we are delighted to offer our assistance by sponsoring their Homeless Outreach Service for 350 homeless people on 29th July 2020 at Trafalgar Square, London providing a hot meal, supply of non-perishable goods and perhaps more importantly hope and community support".
