For Karen, that starts with our people. Her top priority is empowering her team to perform their jobs effectively. She believes that when every individual feels valued, they are motivated and fulfilled in work. In turn, they deliver a service to our clients that is responsive, compassionate, and second-to-none.
To do that, Karen makes sure that we’re investing meaningfully in each and every person at the firm. She leads our staff training, and career development programmes. To support the personal and professional growth of junior colleagues, she has put in place coaching and mentoring initiatives across the firm.
Everybody at KJS understands how their individual’s contribution makes the firm stronger and better, and that’s due to Karen’s leadership. KJS’s accreditation as Platinum Investors in People is a testament to Karen’s hard work and success in this area.
Karen is a qualified solicitor and began her career in family law in 1990. She has had a long and rewarding career as a practising lawyer, before moving into management roles. Now she uses all of her insight to craft the strategy of growth and development for KJS.
Q: What’s the most interesting item on your desk?
A: It’s a photo of my daughter. She is interesting in a thousand ways and utterly unique, constantly reminding me of the importance of family and the personal connections that drive much of the work I do. Her photo inspires me daily, serving as a personal touchstone amidst the professional responsibilities.
Q: Tell us about your hobbies
A: I enjoy staying active with weight-training, cycling, and walking. I love walking by the sea, where the fresh air and sound of the waves provide a sense of tranquillity. I’m a magpie for little shops, and I love to browse, which my husband humorously refers to as "foraging.’ I also enjoy traveling and exploring different places, including towns and villages across the UK
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: I hold a full motorcycle license and owned a Honda CBR600 motorcycle for a time.
