Emma is a Solicitor in our Winchester office, specialising in family law. She advises clients across a wide range of matters, including divorce and separation, financial claims, cohabitation disputes, fertility law and child arrangements. Emma also assists with more specific issues such as education, name changes and relocation. Emma always assists clients to provide clear, practical advice to help clients reach a positive resolution.

Emma is committed to offering constructive and cost-effective solutions, helping clients feel informed and reassured throughout the process.

She has a particular passion for fertility law and supporting clients on their journey to parenthood, including through donor conception and surrogacy arrangements.

Since 2017, and before joining K J Smith, Emma worked as a Paralegal in a Family team before completing her training contract and qualifying as a Family Solicitor in 2021. Emma has developed strong expertise in financial remedy proceedings, including applications to prevent or to set aside the disposal of assets, cases involving non-disclosure, and complex matters with intervenors.

Emma is a member of Resolution and is known for her pragmatic approach and determination to find alternatives to court where possible, whether through negotiation, mediation, or arbitration. She remains focused on achieving fair and workable outcomes for her clients, even in the face of delays and challenges within the court system.

A: Kayaking, paddleboarding, running, and snowboarding.

Q: What is something completely random about yourself that your colleagues wouldn’t know?

A: Emma is from Scotland, though she grew up in Texas (USA). She also lived in Finland for a year, attending Helsinki University, where it gets so cold in the winter that parts of the sea freeze over and can be walked on!
