It’s no secret that the last 12 months have been a huge struggle for venues who have worked tirelessly to keep their doors open, staff employed and their optimism alive in the hope of once again welcoming visitors into their premises.
The hospitality and entertainment industry has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic and sadly many venues have closed their doors for the final time.
Here at K J Smith Solicitors we had an opportunity to contribute to our community Theatre in Henley-on-Thames and provide a much needed helping hand to ensure The Kenton Theatre can continue its many loved shows and performances that have been entertaining the local area and beyond since the 1800’s.
As one of the fourth-oldest working theatres in the UK, the Kenton Theatre has seen it all! From comedy legends and family classics, to youth theatre and musical must-see’s. The Kenton Theatre is home to performers and show-lovers alike who hope to keep their spotlights on and their curtains raised for many more decades to come.
The committee and team of the Kenton Theatre have worked incredibly hard through these trying times to not only ensure they can continue performances as planned in the near future, but also the upkeep and general maintenance of the theatre itself.
The refurbishment and decoration works will help ensure the theatre is not only as grand as visitors remembered but it will breathe new life into parts of the theatre that have perhaps stood still for a brief period of time.
As a Grade-Two listed building and standing 215 years on, this beloved Theatre is waiting patiently for, as Julie Huntington described it herself in their campaign video; “the laughter and applause from the auditorium, the hum of excitement in the foyer…”.
The team have kickstarted a previously successful campaign; Kenton for Keeps, in the hopes of bringing life back to the theatre.

The Kenton for Keeps campaign is an opportunity for the team to raise funds to help with the temporary closure, as a consequence of the pandemic. The campaign not only aims to receive much needed donations but it will also give hope and happiness to those whose lives are very much entwined with the history and joy the Kenton Theatre brings.
K J Smith Solicitors have graciously offered a donation of £500 towards the Kenton for Keeps campaign to help towards refurbishments and the grand opening of the Kenton Theatre.
