A former beauty queen has been urged to reach an agreement in a recent divorce settlement after running up legal bills of more than £1,000,000. Mrs Fields – formerly known as Ekaterina Parfenova, has reportedly asked for a lump sum of £2.6 million and £500,000 per year after that.
Her husband Richard Fields who is an American Lawyer has offered to pay out £2.2 million and £230,000 a year to his estranged wife, advising her to live in a £2 million home in South West London. Despite this offer Mrs Fields’ Lawyer has refused, claiming that she needs £2.6 million to maintain the standard of living in London with their two young children – which will require her to hire help due to medical conditions that leave Mrs Fields exhausted and sometimes needing 14 hours of sleep during daytimes.
Mrs Fields has told the court that she is hoping to marry again once the divorce has been finalised. This is her second divorce after receiving a £1 million divorce settlement from her first husband who was a banker. Her Lawyer stated that claims his client is a “layabout” has caused Mrs Fields “enormous distress” which has even resulted in various threats and abuse from strangers who believed these accusations.
Overseeing the legal battle is Mr Justice Holman who has warned the couple of the £1 million in legal fees and urged them to settle on an agreement. Mr Justice Holman is one of the senior family court judges in England and is reported saying: “It’s awful. Don’t you think it’s awful? It’s like a boxing match” after hearing the submissions from the couple’s Lawyers. Holman also advised that the couple should not be battling this out in court but instead should be sat around a table with their legal teams, seriously discussing the case to see if they can reach an agreement.
With the ruling expected next month, Holman has even halted the hearing and suggesting they talk outside to reach a settlement on what he has called an “unedifying” divorce dispute.
